Super Bowl Party Decorating Ideas in 2024 (2024)

The Super-est of all the Bowl games is upon us. IDK about you, but I am a halftime girly myself. Every year, I watch the Super Bowl exclusively to see the halftime show. And let me tell you, the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show is going to make teenage me very happy.

Knowing full well that Usher will not disappoint, I want to make sure YOU will not disappoint your guests if you’re hosting a Super Bowl watch party this year. So I’m here to reveal my secrets (AKA brilliant ideas) on picking a Super Bowl decoration theme. Yes, you can choose to just add football decorations here and there and serve wings and beer. But let’s do better. For Usher.

And now that the matchup has been set (San Francisco 49ers vs the Kansas City Chiefs…if you didn’t know), we can talk specifics!

Let’s get into it!

Theme Ideas

Here are a few Super Bowl Party decorating ideas!

The Old Stand-By: Football/Team Themed

When you think of a Super Bowl party, I bet you think of football decorations from Party City (or whatever your party supply store is called). Football-shaped dishes, brown and green everything (arguably the two worst colors), plates and napkins with the playing teams’ logos.

You could definitely do that if you want the party to scream THIS IS A FOOTBALL PARTY.

If you want to go all out but save some money, I challenge you to find items that you can reuse. Instead of buying one-time-use serving dishes, use neutral ones (bonus if you already have something that will work!) and find foods that are the colors of the two teams. This year, for example, the 49ers and Chiefs are playing so grab some red fruits and veggies and some gold (or yellow, beige, whatever tf their color is) foods like crackers and pineapple. Oddly enough, both teams have basically the same color scheme so maybe that makes things easier.

Be creative! Place the food you’re serving in the shape of a football instead of purchasing a football-shaped platter or bowl. Make a fun signature co*cktail that is the color of your favorite team! Serve foods that give a nod to the teams/mascots/etc. and print out (or hand write) some food labels. With this year’s matchup being the San Fransisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, you do “San Fran Fries” or “KC corn”. Steer clear of the “Chiefs” puns. Feel free to go all out on the Taylor Swift puns though. I really love the fury coming from men who can’t stand all the swiftie nonsense.

1967: The Beginning

With 2024 being the 58th Super Bowl, I think it would be fun to host a throwback ’60s theme. Obviously, this would mean even more for the 60th Super Bowl, but we’re not there yet so you can just keep that in mind for 2 years from now 🙃

Think disco balls (easy to find right now since they are SO trendy atm), groovy colors, flower power, etc.

The 1960s were all about peace and love ✌️ which is like, kinda the opposite of football, which brings me to my next Super Bowl decoration idea.

Anti-Football

If you aren’t a huge football fan but love any excuse to throw a party, this one’s for you. Anti-football AKA pink everything, girl vibes, soft textures, elegant touches, you name it! Basically plan it like you were planning a girls’ night in. Charcuterie board, wine and bubbly, dessert for days. *muah chef’s kiss*

And, because we love to see the men squirm, you could go with the ultra-girly Taylor Swift theme with references to “Taylor’s boyfriend”.

This t-shirt (and anything like it) is my favorite way to express how I feel about football.

Activities

Activities for your Super Bowl party should be limited. After all, people are there to watch the game, the commercials, and the halftime show, so it doesn’t leave much time for games.

But, if you’ve ever watched a football game, you KNOW the games are long and drawn out, so there’s sure to be some space to fill.

My best advice for really any party is to have activities available at each guest’s own pace. I always think of fun print-outs to have lying around that fit the theme of the party. For a Super Bowl party activity, I would create a BINGO card filled in with a bunch of things you think will happen during the game/half-time show. For example:

  • 1 commercial is about AI
  • 1 commercial features the Pop Tart Mascot
  • Usher brings out a guest performer
  • [insert favorite player] gets MVP

You can add whatever you want to this list. I would add specific things like how many flags are called or other football-related things. I just personally don’t know enough about the game of football to really give examples 😬

Food Ideas

One of my favorite mantras for hosting is “keep it simple”. As an event planner, I always start out with this grand idea in my head with every little detail planned and matching the theme. As the event gets closer, some of those ideas fall to the side.

The same goes for figuring out what I’m serving. Hosting a Super Bowl party is fairly forgiving (versus say, a high tea party) because you can be a little more casual with your food choices. Everyone will be happy with hotdogs, chips and dips, and beer.

BUT, if you’re extra like me, it’s fun to have some unique dishes available to really show off your hosting skills.

I love making a homemade dip – 7-layer dip, spinach and artichoke dip, salsa and guac – you name it. This whipped feta honey dip is a huge crowd-pleaser and could NOT be easier to make.

My perfect formula for a party like this is to make 2-3 items from scratch (or scratch-ish) and the rest can be heat-and-eat or catered from a restaurant.

Hopefully, this helped you get some ideas for the perfect Super Bowl party!

Happy celebrating!
