M&S has just unveiled the menu for this year’s edition of its mega popular Valentine’s ‘Dine In for Two’ meal deal.

And it’s sounding tastier than ever.

Last year, more than a million Brits headed on down to their nearest M&S to make the most of the retailer‘s now-legendary Valentine’s dining deal and celebrate the international day of love in a more low-key way from the comfort of their own home.

But this year, says it wants to top that success, and is hoping that its “most luxurious” menu yet will do just the trick.

For the first time ever, the retailer has added lobster to the main courses lineup on this year’s ‘Dine In’ menu after it proved so popular with shoppers and flew off the shelves over the Christmas season, with some of the other options sitting alongside that including steak, lamb shanks, and beef wellington, as well as mushroom stroganoff pies for plant-based foodies.

Just some of the starters and sides on the menu this year include king prawns, breaded camembert, tempura veg fritters, a leek and cheddar souffle tart, truffle mash, smashed potatoes, a cheesy green veg bake, and so much more.

To satisfy those sweet tooths at the end of an indulgent meal, triple chocolate brownies, a melt-in-the-middle chocolate pudding, tiramisu mousse cake, salted caramel profiteroles, white chocolate and raspberry mousse hearts, and even a mini cheese board are among the delights you can choose from.

Then, to wash it all down with, you can pick from a wide range of different wines and proseccos, or even a four-pack of M&S’s social media sensation Passionstar Martini co*cktail tinnies instead.

Lobster isn’t the only newbie this year either, as 2024 also marks the first time the Valentine’s ‘Dine In for Two’ deal has a fully gluten free menu, as well as a brand-new vegan menu too, so no lovers need be left out.

“This year’s menu is sure to set hearts racing,” an M&S spokesperson said.

Manchester Airport reveals shocking list of 400 items confiscated by security in just one morningEmily SergeantM&S unveils 2024 menu for popular Valentine's 'Dine In for Two' £25 meal deal (7)

Manchester Airport has revealed a shocking list of almost 400 items confiscated by security staff in just one morning.

And honestly, you won’t believe some of the things people’ve tried to take on a plane.

With the Easter break drawing to a close now across Greater Manchester, and children throughout the region getting ready to return to the classroom, Manchester Airport is urging all passengers travelling during the final few days of the school holidays to make sure they know the hand luggage rules before boarding the plane.

It comes after 22 pairs of scissors, eight toy guns, two blow torches, and even a couple of packs of darts, were just some of the goods confiscated at security gates in just one morning.

According to security staff, the most-confiscated item, by far, was the cigarette lighter – with 284 of them handed in over the course of the morning.

Passengers are permitted to carry one lighter with them, as long as it fits into a clear resealable plastic bag and contains under 100ml of liquid, but bringing through multiple lighters is not allowed, and this is what led to so many people having to turn them in.

As well as the lighters, scissors, toy guns, blow torches, and packs of darts, some of the other items confiscated on the morning include five multi-tools, four corkscrews, two hacksaws, 12 cans of deodorant, and even a hammer… yes, an actual hammer.

Two large soft drinks bottles, a bottle of shower gel, and a one-litre bottle of vodka were a few of the other shocking confiscations.

Full list of items confiscated at Manchester Airport security in one morning

  • 284 cigarette lighters
  • 22 pairs of scissors
  • 12 cans of deodorant
  • Eight toy guns
  • Eight bullet casings
  • Five multi-tools
  • Five knives or blades (longer than 6cm / 2.3in)
  • Four corkscrews
  • Two hacksaws
  • Two packs of darts
  • Two large drinks bottles
  • Two blow torches
  • One bottle of shower gel
  • One hammer
  • One 1L bottle of vodka

“We want passengers to feel like they’re beginning their holidays here at Manchester Airport,” commented Graham Matthews, who is Head of Terminal Security for Terminal 3 at Manchester Airport, on the list of confiscated items.

“Almost every passenger will wait for less than 15 minutes to get to security, so they can then get through and relax in the departure lounge within minutes of arriving here, but each time we have to pull a bag aside for a manual search, it takes several minutes.

“Every search adds up and can slow down the whole security process, not only for the passenger carrying a non-compliant item, but also for the passengers behind them in the queue.

100-year-old Manc woman says to ‘stay single’ if you want to live a long lifeEmily SergeantM&S unveils 2024 menu for popular Valentine's 'Dine In for Two' £25 meal deal (12)

A Cheadle care home resident who is celebrating her 100th birthday recommends that people “stay single” if they want to live a long life.

Joyce Preston is marking a milestone that not many people get to reach in their lifetimes, as she impressively turned 100 years of age a couple of weeks back on 20 March, and so naturally, she’s been taking some time to reflect and look back on the decades she’s been lucky enough to spend on this earth.

Not only that, but the Stockport centenarian has also shared what she believes is the key to living a long life in the hopes it’ll help others to do the same.

She may currently be a resident at Care UK’s Abney Court Care Home, in Abney Hall Park in Cheadle, at the moment, but Joyce was born in Stockport on 20 March 1924.

Making the decision to never get married, Joyce instead decided to focus on her career at the Shirley Institute – which was a research centre for the cotton industry – and after years of her hard work, she went on to become the head of the company’s office in Didsbury.

Joyce has visited many countries across the world throughout her life, thanks to a shared love of travelling on cruises with her close friends, and reveals she was the most fond of her time spent in the Middle East in particular.

Aside from travelling, Joyce has always had a passion for singing, and she spent many years performing with her local choir.

But what exactly does she owe her 100 years to then? What does she reckon is the key to living a long and healthy life? Well, we’ll need to go back to the ‘never marrying’ part to find the answer for that, as Joyce has attributed her impressive longevity to “staying single”, and ultimately, having fun.

“I really enjoyed the day,” Joyce said, after celebrating her 100th birthday in style during a party at Abney Court last month, that was complete with a cake specially-prepared by the home’s Head Chef, and a performance by the choir she used to be a was a part of.

“I especially enjoyed seeing my friends and family, and I loved the choir as it brought back memories of my time in the choir, so that made my day.”

Zoe Smart, who is the Home Manager at Abney Court, said it was an “honour” to celebrate Joyce’s birthday with her, as she is “a beloved resident” and that everything the home does centres around “supporting residents to live fulfilling lives”.

“Joyce’s 100th birthday was no exception, and it was a delight to hear her sound advice for living a long and happy life and all about her travels in her younger years.”
