For the longest time, my family has loved having a bulk pantry. It is something that we started when we moved to Iowa and began to learn more about making food from scratch. Growing up, I only had the spice mixes made from the store, and they tend to leave behind a little, don’t you think? Sometimes it is nice to make your own blends at home so that you can pack a bit of extra punch into your next dish!

I am sharing three of my favorite spice mixes with you, as I have been really enjoying the convenience of just grabbing the little jar while cooking rather than every single jar of herbs from the shelf and pre-mixing them before I get started. I use these mixes for almost everything, and they are so flavorful. You will love them! Each recipe fits in one Ball® Mini Jar. Aren’t they so cute?

to make the spice mixes:

  • For each spice combination, mix them in a small bowl with a whisk or fork.

  • Transfer to a Ball® Mini Jar or a small jar with a seal. You can double or triple ingredients, depending on the size of your jar! They will store for many months in a dry, dark spot like a pantry cabinet.

  • Feel free to experiment and add more or less of a particular spice that you like!

Taco Seasoning:

  • 4 tsp chili powder

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp paprika

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 2 tsp oregano

  • 2 tsp pepper

  • 1 tsp onion flakes

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Perfect for fajitas, seasoning taco meat, or mixing into your enchilada filling!

  • 2 tsp pepper

  • 2 tsp oregano

  • 2 tsp basil

  • 2 tsp rosemary

  • 2 tsp thyme

  • 1 tsp nutmeg

I personally love this mix for pasta salad or tuna salad!

I just love these little Ball® Mini Jars! They are precious and fit perfectly in a pantry cabinet or spice drawer. They make such a cute gift, too. A pack comes with six jars, so you can add your own homemade spice mixes as well. I think it makes the perfect homemade Christmas present, if you know someone who loves to cook!

Do you make your own spice mixes at home? Let me know how you like these!

xoxo Kayla
